Ice alerts on your phone
Halklarm sends a notification to your phone when the ice risk rises in a municipality you choose, at any hour. Free, no account, no app store.
Switch it on
The buttons and the notifications are in Swedish. This is what they say.
- On an iPhone, add the site to the home screen first: in Safari, tap Share, then “Add to Home Screen”, and open it from the icon. Apple only allows notifications from web pages on the home screen, from iOS 16.4. On Android and computers this step is optional.
- Open your municipality’s page: search on the start page or pick it from the list of municipalities.
- Under Halklarm i realtid, choose “Förhöjd och hög risk” (elevated and high) or “Bara hög risk” (high only).
- Tap Slå på halklarm för … (switch on), and allow notifications when the phone asks.
- A first notification, “Halklarm på för …”, arrives within seconds. Then you know it works.
You can have alerts for up to five municipalities on one device.
How it behaves
- Every ten minutes, day and night, we recalculate the Halk-Index for every municipality someone follows.
- One notification per rise. If the risk stays at the same level for hours, you hear nothing more.
- A rise from elevated to high sends a new one, since that is a new and worse situation.
- After three calm hours it starts over: the next rise counts as a new warning.
- There is no “all clear” notification.
- A warning that cannot be delivered within two hours is dropped, so a phone that was off does not get a pile of old ones.
Two options sit next to the button. “Kvällsvarning kl. 20” sends a notification around 8 pm when the forecast says the road will turn icy before 9 am. “Följ min position” switches the alert on in the municipality you are in when you open the app, and off again a few days after you leave. The phone only checks while the app is open, and the position never leaves the phone.
What it is not
The alert follows Halk-Index, our own estimate from weather forecasts and, where available, Trafikverket’s measurements and reports from roads nearby. It does not measure the ice where you drive. An alert means “take extra care”; no alert does not mean the road is safe.
Privacy and switching off
We store the address of your phone’s notification service, the municipality and the level you chose. No name, no phone number, no position. Tap Stäng av on the municipality’s page to switch off. Remove the app or turn off its notifications, and we delete the device at the next warning. Details are in the privacy policy (in Swedish).
